Veterans Cup 2012: A great day in Weiterstadt!

The 18th Veterans Cup took place on 25 October 2012 in Weiterstadt. Who would have thought in 1995, when we organised the first VC, that we would be holding the 18th Cup in 2012. Unbelievable, but the scene is still very active. One person who has always been a particularly important partner is Dieter S.c.h.a.d.o.w.s.k.i. He is a BMX'er through and through and has been supporting the Veterans' Cup since 1997. Because of these special services, Dieter was presented with an honourable mention by Stephan P.r.a.n.t.l and Ingo K.e.l.l.e.r for his life's work as the "Godfather of Oldschul-BMX". There was also a cake from Thomas G.r.e.i.s. as a special gift on top.

This year, there was also a team competition in addition to the veteran and old-school classes. Several veterans were able to form a team and were judged together as a team according to their placings in the veteran and old school races. The individual places were added together and the team with the fewest points won. Medals were awarded for the team competition and trophies for the veteran and old school classes. In addition, the old-schoolers received extra jerseys with back numbers from 1-8, which were donated by MG Sports, and for the veterans, as always, number plates with the starting numbers 1-8 for the next Veterans' Cup.

In the team competition, 3rd place went to team "Kölle Fornia" with the team Thomas E.n.c.k, Stephan P.r.e.u.s.s.l.e.r and Nino N.a.g.e.l, team "TSV" came second with the line-up Tino S.e.i.d.e.l, Holger S.p.i.n.d.l.e.r, David M.o.l.i.n.a and Udo W.a.g.n.e.r, and team "GHP" took home first place with the players Stephan P.r.a.n.t.l, Abbas H.a.m.d.i and Bernd O.t.t.e.r.b.a.c.h. Congratulations to everyone who took part.

In this context, many thanks again to all donors for providing prizes!

Many old-schoolers were onlookers this year and watched as other veterans gave their old bikes a run for their money: Ralf F.r.u.e.c.h.t.l, Ronnie S.a.m.p.s.o.n, Willi F.o.r.m.a.n.e.k, Stephan B.e.t.t.z.u.e.g.e , Jürgen T.i.s.s.m.e.r, Ingo K.e.l.l.e.r, Jürgen W.a.g.n.e.r, Holger G.o.d.a.u, Massimo V.a.l.l.o, to name but a few....

Here are a few group pictures of Redline teams: The old Haro Factory team from Hajo's almost completely united with F.r.u.e.c.h.t.l, F.a.l.t.e.r and V.i.d.a.k.o.v.i.c, plus Ivi with Jürgen W.a.g.n.e.r and three other Redline veterans with Rini W.e.n.d.t, Tino S.e.i.d.e.l and Michael B.a.l.i.n.t.

A lot of CrMo precious metal from the 80s and 90s was once again on display in the paddock. The number was astonishing, and this time there were also some very special models among the devotional objects. Take a look at the gallery of portraits taken of the individual supermodels. A real feast for the eyes!

As is almost a tradition, the weather at this year's Veterans' Cup in Weiterstadt was great again. It was the last beautiful weekend of 2012, although it was already the end of October and many feared cold, rainy weather. The atmosphere was accordingly good, even though the race started almost 2 hours late after registration and training. An IT problem with the printout of the starter lists had completely disrupted the schedule, so that the entire race was actually held after sunset under floodlights. This makes me think of the old days from the 80s, when the lists were still written with a biro and carbon paper. It was tedious, but you weren't dependent on technology and in the end you were faster than in today's race. No matter, it didn't detract from the fun. The heats went smoothly and the fun factor was high. Unfortunately, Rini had a crash in the semi-finals and was not only injured but also had to have an operation at home in Munich. He broke his ankle with a complicated fracture; get well soon!

The finals were very interesting and exciting, luckily Ingo K.e.l.l.e.r captured a few sequences on video. You can watch the old school final run on YouTube. Take a look at how incredibly Abbas H.a.m.d.i drove from 4th to 2nd place on the last straight

Finally, I would like to thank all participants, guests, spectators, organisers, jury members, track judges, TSV Braunshardt and the sponsors for their contributions, which once again made this event a great experience. This Veterans Cup was the 18th meeting and I would be delighted to see everyone again at the 19th Veterans Cup. And in two years' time, the plan is to organise a big get-together for the 20th anniversary. Set up your bikes, prepare yourselves, train a little and come back to one of the next Veterans Cups! I look forward to seeing you again Ralf M.a.u.r.i.t.z.
