Veterans Cup 2010 in Weiterstadt: Veterans Cup is coming home!

To summarise at the beginning: it was a great event. Many veterans were at the track, a lot of them took part in the race and rode their bikes out on the track. As well as lots of great bikes and cool 80s gear, there was plenty more to see. You can see who all was there at a glance in the "team photo" below, taken on the first obstacle:

Every year, a few legends come to the Veterans' Cup. This time it was Sven S.t.u.e.b.n.e.r, who was back at the start for the second time since 1997. It's amazing what speed the man still has. He was travelling on his old Hutch Hollywood, with his old clothes, helmet etc. He just knows how to do it and hasn't forgotten anything, so he finished fourth in the oldies class. Congratulations!

Alongside Sven, Guido H.a.n.n.i.c.h also took part in the Veterans' Cup again. Guido once again prepared extremely well for the Veterans' Cup and this year focussed not only on the bike and clothing, but also on the overall impression. Perhaps you remember 2004, when Guido decorated a car with Stephan P.r.a.n.t.l in the GHP look. This year, he presented the German Torker Factory team in person by exhibiting a yellow-painted VW bus with Torker signature on the outside and inside with Torker memorabilia from various eras. It's amazing how much attention to detail has gone into this. Take a look at the pictures below: Even Tommy Brackens would be jealous. Respect Guido, you really know how to do it!

This time there was a woman at the start again: Katharina M.o.r.h.a.r.d.t from Griesheim took on the battle of man versus woman with veterans, some of whom were 20 years younger. What a great effort! That's true BMX spirit! In addition to the women at the start, the veterans' outfits are always a feast for the eyes. Most of them look like they were bought in the shop yesterday. Also fascinating is the fact that the guys still fit into their old trousers and jerseys after 20-30 years. Respect colleagues!

Some very nice outfits by Dietmar D.a.m.m and Jürgen V.o.i.g.t (both in GT), Thomas L.o.e.r.c.h.e.r (in Skyway) and Hamdi A.b.b.a.s (in GHP).

There was also a big bike exhibition this year. Many veterans spent many hours restoring 4130 dreams from the 80s and 90s and put them on display here. Some of the steel steeds look almost better today than they did when they were brand new in the shops. The attention to detail was extremely pronounced on some of the exhibits, so that even the skinwall tyres were clinically clean down to the smallest groove. It was also fascinating to see the rare objects on display. There were many 24-inch cruisers (red Hutch XL, Murray, JMC, Kuwahara, several Torker and Redline) as well as a very rare, red 26-inch Redline cruiser, some freestylers (PTR Trickstyler, GT Freestyler) and lots of 20-inch race bikes (many Skyways, Kuwahara, Torker, Diamond Back, Redline) as well as a bike with a self-built sidecar.

Take a look at the beautiful bikes that the veterans brought with them to Weiterstadt.

Like every year, the stand of Wolfgang F.r.i.t.s.c.h.e.r from Rabbit BMX Bremen is a great place to chat, get information, browse through magazines and stock up on parts. Even if you need to fix something quickly or something is stuck, Wolfgang always knows what to do and is happy to help. Thank you also for your many years of loyal support. Without people like you, we would not be able to organise the Veterans' Cup. Once again this year you have supported us financially and with prizes, thank you again for that. Below you can see the plates that Wolfgang donated for the final participants; as always, they were in great demand.

What other nice people were along the route? Have a look at the following pictures? Do you recognise the oldies? Resolution afterwards:

Resolution: In the pictures you can see (in reading direction from left to right): Massimo V.a.l.l.o (left, in redline), Jan M.e.r.x (centre), Holger S.p.i.n.d.l.e.r from Frankfurt with Robert H.o.c.h from Munich (right).

Who won the King of Oldschool contest this year? Take a look at the picture: It was Guido H.a.n.n.i.c.h! In addition to the cool Torker car, he had a very nice 90s bike with the appropriate clothes. With this overall concept, he rightly deserved the 2010 title. Second place went to Sven S.t.u.e.b.n.e.r (Hutch) and third place to Thomas G.r.e.i.s (Skyway).

Award ceremony of the veteran class. As so often before, Agi R.a.m.a.l.h.o was once again unstoppable and once again secured the title and the coveted plate with the number 1. The other places behind him were: 2. Ralf M.a.u.r.i.t.z, 3. Steffen S.a.n.g.e.r, 4. Mark A.n.t.o.n.y, 5. Sascha S.p.e.c.h.t, 6. Holger S.p.i.n.d.l.e.r, 7. Uwe B.u.r.d.a.c.k, 8. Rini W.e.n.d.t. Congratulations to all starters in the veteran class; that was great sport!

There was a tough fight for places in the oldies class. This time, Thomas E.n.c.k took the title for the first time, ahead of 2nd place and Ralf M.a.u.r.i.t.z and 3rd place and Guido H.a.n.n.i.c.h. The other positions went to: 4th Sven S.t.u.e.b.n.e.r, 5th Hamdi A.b.b.a.s, 6th Tom L.o.e.r.c.h.e.r, 7th Jürgen T.i.s.s.m.e.r, 8th Thomas G.r.e.i.s. Congratulations to all the oldie participants; you all did a great job!

In addition to plates from Wolfgang F.r.i.t.s.c.h.e.r, there were also trophies for the veteran class, which were donated by Uwe B.u.r.d.a.c.k.. Many thanks for the donation of the trophies, that was a very generous action. We would also like to thank Oli K.i.e.n.z.l.e from OldschoolBMX, who supported us again this year as he has done in previous years.

The conclusion for 2010 is: great weather, nice people, very nice bikes, no injuries, a super route and lots of fun. What more could you want? I think we had everything you need for a successful BMX race. I hope everyone involved enjoyed it so much that we can welcome them back to Weiterstadt in 2011. And everyone who wasn't there and is reading this should be jealous and come back next year. I would be very happy to see you all again.
Take care and get ready for the 17th Veterans' Cup and we'll see you next year in Weiterstadt!
Your Ralf
