Veterans Cup Report 2005

The 11th Veterans' Cup was held on 1 May 2005 and, as in previous years, many veterans came to Weiterstadt, the capital of old-school BMX. This year there were 35 riders at the start, plus a few dozen other old acquaintances as onlookers. This time the friends from SE-Racing were extremely well represented; one even had an SE tattoo on his back!

In addition to 34 men, there was also a woman at the start this time: Pia H.e.t.k.a.m.p (formerly H.o.e.h.m.a.n.n) took part and rode a BMX bike for the first time since 1990 (!!!)! RESPECT! Here at the gate Pia (#49) starts with her brother Kay H.o.e.h.m.a.n.n (#40), who was very fast as before.

Take a look at this photo: A starting gate full of old jerseys: Murray, Skyway twice, Diamond Back, Bicycle Motocross Action and Schauff. A real veteran's heart will beat faster.

Turn 2 semi-final: Super sequence from the mass crash. Pit J.a.n.d.t (#20) still in front, but Ralf M.a.u.r.i.t.z (#49), Alexis F.o.t.a.k.i.s (#22) and Sascha S.c.h.m.i.d.t (#23) stick to his rear tyre. Shortly afterwards, the track is too narrow for the four of them and Pit makes a good braking block for the others. Ouch, I still felt the crash in my wrist almost four months later. Guido H.a.n.n.i.c.h (#9) watches the whole thing from behind, coolly rides past and makes it into the final. Note Guido's sharp redline outfit!

Oli K.i.e.n.z.l.e was also there, but unfortunately didn't race. Here in discussion with Ralf and Kay H.o.e.h.m.a.n.n. Oli, where do you get the old clothes from? And above all: Why do you still fit into the old clothes like these Bill Waters trousers?

Agi R.a.m.a.l.h.o (#2) extremely stylish over the big double ahead of Giovanni V.e.c.c.h.i.o (#4) and Peter J.a.n.d.t (#20). Agi is in a different league. Last year he "only" finished second, but this year he was back on top of the podium.

Marco M.u.e.l.l.e.r (#6) ahead of Michael G.r.e.l.a.k (#5) and Marco V.a.e.t.h (#3). That was probably the "Highest air of the day" what Marco V.a.e.t.h celebrated here over the double.

King of Oldschool: Here Dieter S.c.h.a.d.o.w.s.k.i honours the three coolest veterans. Frank B.u.n.k, Dirk W.a.e.h.l.e.r and Stephan P.r.a.n.t.l were honoured for their outfits this year.
